The Department of History is one of the active departments of our college. The Department under its society, Virasat has organized several seminars and field trips for its Undergraduate students. In the last two years, the department has earned several laurels to its credit. Recently, the department roped in Archaeologist, Dr. Amrendra Nath who has excavated Harrapan Site, Rakhi Garhi in Hissar district of Haryana for guiding the students to the site. Professor Kesavan Veluthat and Archaeologist, Dr. V. K Jain were among the experts who helped the students in understanding the importance of archaeology in history writing in general and the site of Rakhi Garhi in particular. The department video-recorded the event and with the help of its faculties and students molded it into a documentary film, titled, A Walk into the Past: Harappan Site Rakhi Garhi, which is available on this website under ‘Video’ section for the benefit of general students of history. The department also organized a visit to Purana Qila, when the excavation was under progress to give a first- hand experience of the field archaeology. Last year, the department organized a seminar entitled, “Writings on India’s Ancient Past: One day Student’s Seminar in memory of Professor R.S. Sharma”, where a number of scholars participated and shared their views on several aspects of ancient and early medieval Indian history. Eminent historians have regularly been participating and contributing in making the department vibrant for our students. Professors T.K. Venkatasubramanian, Kesavan Veluthat, R.C. Thakran, Upinder Singh and B.P. Sahu have delivered lectures on different themes in the last two years.
